Common Digs

Long periods of time to play in nature - everyday.

The Forest School program operates in a variety of different settings and contexts, all designed to support children’s rights to leisure time in nature. Children are given the freedom to spend the majority of time in nature whilst supported by Early Childhood Educators and Forest School practitioners.

The Common Digs Forest School in Calgary, Alberta, models the Forest School approach that has been well established in Europe since the 1950's. Research shows a multitude of reasons - intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical - to get children outside spending great lengths of time playing, relaxing and just “being” in nature.

Community Benefit

In collaborating with Common Digs, we are able to activate the Highfield Farm Space with educational and experiential programming for children. Common Digs also supports special events and volunteer programs.

Visiting Details

The Forest School Space is used exclusively by Common Digs. Tours and questions about Forest School should be directed to Common Digs via the "Learn More" link below.
