About the Event
The Canadian Garden Council has proclaimed 2022 "The Year of the Garden". The City of Calgary has also proclaimed 'Garden Days' from June 11-19th.
"The Year of the Garden officially starts the first day of spring, and all Canadians – whether you already enjoy gardening, recently discovered the pleasure of spending time in a garden because of the pandemic, or want to learn more about how gardens impact so much of life – are invited to take part. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, celebrate our country’s rich garden heritage, and help grow important legacies for a sustainable future."
To recognize these important proclamations, Highfield Regenerative Farm and Calgary Horticultural Society are excited to collaborate and bring you a Year of the Garden Celebration on June 12th. You'll get to know the farm site, and have the opportunity to learn from local experts about how to apply their extensive knowledge to your own gardens. This is a choose your own adventure afternoon, with concurrent sessions after a general farm tour. Bulk compost products and retail soil ammendments will be available for purchase at this event.

Compost Q&A with Mike Dorion
"Hi, I'm Mike Dorion aka "The Compost Kid", I love food!
Grocery stores just can not match the tastiness from my Grandma’s garden.
Many people from my generation have missed out on precious skills that were not passed down. We have to find other teachers. Starting with a Gardening class put on by the Calgary Horticulture Society, I became immersed. It continued with my Permaculture Design Certificate, SPIN Farming, Greenhouse Design, Compost Facility Operators Certificate, and mentoring in Soil and Soil Microbiology. At our compost Q&A you'll learn about home composting do's and dont's and how to make the City compost work best for your home garden!"
